Situated at high altitude near the glaciers of the Hautes-Alpes, the Gyr is a unique river which experiences changes in flow throughout the day. When rays of sunlight warm up the glaciers of the Ecrins, the ice melts and sets out on its path to the sea. When you take to the river for the first time, it is hard to understand exactly what is going on.Waves rebound from one rock to the next and you need good anticipation to maintain a steady course.
